LCD technology is very complex to manufacture. The process can include up to 128 steps. Intricate structures filter light through three sub-pixels (1 Red, 1 Blue, and 1 Green for every single pixel). Because LCD features are so small and complex, manufacturing them is difficult. Simpler construction should lead to greater reliability and consistency.
