A true antimicrobial surface will contact kill all types of pathogenic organisms. UniPixel has focused on killing the two most common bad microbes - viruses and bacteria. The killing of microbes needs to occur within a short period of time preferably less than 15 minutes and ideally on contact (or less than 30 seconds). Most antimicrobials work by disrupting or destroying the membranes or reproductive behavior of the pathogenic organism.
UniPixel's strategy uses a “formulation” of safe proprietary chemicals, similar to how AIDS patients are treated, so that the probability of any particular (virus or bacteria) organism being resistant to all the additives is virtually zero. UniPixel has test data showing our approach to be highly effective to both bacteria and viruses. We have demonstrated very high kill rates >99% against common tough to kill bacteria such as S. aureus and the H1N1 virus.
In developing the UniPixel UniGlas™ AM anti-microbial film, we made sure that our AM film has no effect on the optical performance of the display that the film or coating covers, as well as shows both short term (6 months) and long term >1 year efficacy against pathogenic exposures and assaults.

In the figure on the left you can see the anti-microbial molecules in the film. These molecules move toward the surface continuously refreshing the surface and acting as a kill agent to viruses and bacteria. The figure to the right shows a cross section image of the UniPixel UniGlas™ AM film.
The AM film can be used in a variety of applications and situations such as on the screen of consumer electronics, games, hospital surfaces and touch screens, appliances, military, food wrapping and preparation surfaces and automotive markets.
UniPixel can provide surface coated standard or customer supplied substrate films or sheets, we can supply ready to use surface activated films to customer specifications or we can coat glass products in factory or on a custom basis.
